Race Report: Buttonwillow, June 2006
We came into the weekend knowing that the weather would be too hot to break the lap record, which is held by Edik Stepanyan. We made sure everything was intact in the warm-up session and then went out and qualified 1st with Jeremy in 2nd and Ryan in 3rd with Benny's CRX. Edik started from pole and safely finished in first place to take his fourth win of the season. Jeremy's engine bay caught on fire with about a lap remaining in the race and had to settle for fifth place. Ryan took second place and Sam finished in third.
Edik was able to qualify on pole again with Ryan and Sam filling in the top three. Jeremy was unable to qualify since he was trying to get his car wired back together. Edik checked out after a couple of laps in the race and took it easy the last few laps. With less than a lap left and almost no rear tires left, the back of Edik's Integra came loose in cotton corners and lost the lead to Jeremy. Edik finished in 2nd place with Ryan in third.
It was a pretty good weekend at Edik finished 1st on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday to extend his points lead in the Championship. After half of the season completed, Edik is in 1st place leading Jeremy by 20 points with Sam in 3rd.
