Edo
Motorsports had about 2 months to prepare for the NASA Nationals
since the August NASA event at Willow Springs was cancelled.
The crew built the engine with the new custom fully machined
JE pistons to insure uniformity compared to the cast pistons used in
the previous engine. West Coast Racing did all the machining for the
block and head within the limits of the rules.
The NASA director Ryan Flaherty was kind enough to bring the
Whistler to us in order to make sure the compression ratio is within
the rules. The Integra was
then Dyno tuned by Derek at Hondata and then corner-weighed and
aligned by Darren at West End Alignment.
A new rear spoiler was installed on the car thanks to a
fellow Honda Challenge racer Renan Bayar.
The bumper and fender were painted by Mirage Auto Body &
Paint to insure the car is not only fast on the race track but also
looks pristine.
After all the work was completed, it
was time to shake down the car.
Edo Motorsports joined SCCA at Buttonwillow on August 30,31
for a double regional race weekend.
The NASA H4 prepped Acura Integra fit the SCCA RS class.
The weekend went well with only one problem.
The passenger side axle failed coming out of the esses turns
in Saturday’s qualifying session.
The axle was replaced and it worked well for the rest of the
weekend. There were minor
improvements made to the car including adjusting the angle of the
new rear spoiler.
On Saturday night SCCA held a 1/8th mile
drag race on the front straight of the race track.
Edik practiced launching the Integra as the starts at
Nationals will be standing starts.
It didn’t take long for him to get the launch down as he has
previous drag racing experience.
Edik took first place in class on Saturday and 2nd on
Sunday, but that didn’t matter as much as the car was now ready for
the NASA Nationals race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on September
11-14.
Later on after the event, the Team
found out that Edik set a new record in the RS class with a lap time
of 2:03.979 for the 18 Clockwise configuration.
