The EdoMoto Acura Integra was at Buttonwillow Race Park on
June 21st to
compete in the 5th round
of Honda Challenge. New improvements from the previous race include
a new custom header and exhaust system.
The practice session went well, even though the oil
temperature was at the limit. An alignment adjustment was made to
the rear of the car to allow for more rotation. This helped run
qualify for first place with the fastest lap of the weekend in the
H4 class with a 2:11.191.
Unfortunately there was an incident between Edik and Manny Coats in
his H4 CRX. Manny lost
control of his car and went across the track. Edik was right behind
him as this happened and was unable to avoid contact.
The damage to both cars was severe.
The EdoMoto team beat out the fenders and subframe just in
time for the 3 minute call for grid.
The splitter was damaged in the incident so the rear spoiler
was removed. This reduced the
amount of downforce, but was necessary to keep the car in balance.
The green flag dropped and Edik was still in the lead after
the first right hander. The
configuration of the track did not help as it was mostly left handed
turns and the damage on the car was mostly on the right side.
Edik let the cars behind him pass by, but kept close behind.
He put down the 2nd fastest
lap of the race and finished in 3rd place.
The 2nd place
car was disqualified due to contact with another racer and therefore
gave the EdoMoto team a 2nd place
finish.
The car was taken home to further repair the vehicle
including replacing the subframe and crossmember.
The car was far too damaged to repair in one night and Edik
was in pain due to his back from repairing the car at the track.
The team decided to use Sunday’s race as one of the four race
points drops given to allow time for proper repair of the car and to
rest the driver’s back.
The Edomoto Integra will be out at Willow Springs on July 12,13 for
the next round of Honda Challenge.
